La Encina del Inglés | Melonera - 2021

Cherry red color with violaceous edges.

Aromas of red and black forest fruit, fresh with notes of freshly cut grass.

On the palate it is fresh, meaty and round. With very well integrated ripe tannins and a balsamic background. Long aftertaste.

Encina del Inglés is a red wine from the D.O. Sierras de Málaga made by the Finca La Melonera winery. Encina del Inglés comes from vineyards that are owned and controlled by the team at Finca La Melonera, and they can be found between 600 and 900 metres above sea level. These vines are around eight years old and grown on clay-loam soils with a presence of limestone.

Established in early 2001, it is one of the newest appellations in the country. It shares the same geographical area as Málaga, but is allowed to produce a wider range of varieties and lighter, unfortified wines – a response to growing market demands for young wines. Sierras means "mountain ranges" in Spanish, so the DO's name is fitting, given its mostly mountainous terrain. The climate, unsurprisingly, is heavily influenced by the Mediterranean sea as well as the hot and dry conditions that prevail inland.
